The Centre for Banking Research (CBR) is an internationally recognized Research Centre within the Faculty of Finance at Cass Business School, City University of London. Independent rankings have placed Cass’s banking research 1st in Europe for its impact on the real world of business, practitioners and policy-makers. Its location, right in the middle of the City of London and very close to Silicon Roundabout, provides a perfect environment for forward-looking and policy-oriented research agenda: banks, Fintech firms, and the Bank of England are all within walking distance. The Centre was established in 2008 and has steadily grown in reputation and research expertise. It currently has fifteen core members, with a wide range of research interests and methodological approaches. Research in the Centre covers a wide set of topics and is published routinely in the top journals in finance, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies. CBR members provide knowledge transfer in a number of ways and consult and provide advice regularly to several premier policy-making institutions, reflecting a culture of generating research that influences the thinking of business leaders and ultimately aims at having an impact on the way society operates.
